You are Exercising but Not Losing Weight?

December 27th, 2007

Lose WeightI heard this from many people I know who decided to get fit and lose weight but were unsuccessful.

You start off very well, exercide a few times in a week. But several weeks/months passes and you see you are at the same weight. Let’s look at some of the reasons:

You’re still eating too many calories - Weight loss occurs when you burn more calories than you’re taking in. It may be that you haven’t changed your eating habits for the better. First find out how many calories you need to function on a daily basis and reduce calories from there. Keep a food diary and log what you are eating on a daily basis. You may be surprised how many calories you are actually taking in.

Eating too much processed junk - Many people fall for the myth that because they exercise, they can eat whatever they want and still lose weight. This is so not true. Your eating habits need the biggest adjustment when you’ve decided to get healthier. Eating too many processed foods will only destroy all of the hard work you do exercising. So toss out the junk and stick to fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats.

Not performing the right exercises - Although any form of physical activity is good, there are specific exercises that can help burn fat. Particularly strength training and interval training. With intervals, you’ll achieve more fat burning results in less workout time. It is also a lot less boring if you dislike exercising for that reason.

A New Way To Prevent Cancer

December 27th, 2007

Prevent CancerWe always hear from our Mom and Dad to turn the lights out. But we didn’t know that turning lights out could be a way to prevent cancer.

A new study shows that women who work as flight attendants, and women who work night shifts, have an elevated cancer risk. One theory is that melatonin, a hormone manufactured by the brain in total darkness, may play a role in cancer prevention.

So what experts advice? -Make sure to turn off all lights, the TV, and face alarm clocks so the light is away from you at night. If you have a street light that shines in your bedroom window, use blinds in addition to other window treatments. Go early to bed!

Fiber Against Diabetes

December 26th, 2007

Fiber agains Type 2 DiabetesIt’s reported that fiber found in cereal, bread, and various grain products may reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes.

People who consume the most cereal fiber are 27% less likely to get diabetes than those who consumed the least. Insoluble fiber in cereal and grains makes your cells more sensitive to insulin and therefore reduces your risk of diabetes.

Please note that the recommended intake of fiber is 25 grams a day. Go for whole-grain breads, high fiber cereals, and health bars. Gnu Foods Flavor & Fiber bars may be a smart choice.

Natural Treatment for Blackheads

December 26th, 2007

BlackheadsA blackhead, also known as open comedo and plural comedones, is a yellowish or blackish bump or plug on the skin. It is a type of acne vulgaris. Blackheads are usualy caused by excessive oil and makeup, which can facilitate the multiplication of the bacterium propionibacterium acnes, the predominant anaerobe of the normal skin flora. The substance found in these bumps mostly consists of keratin and modified sebum, which darkens as it oxidizes.

To prevent blackhead never sleep in makeup. Oatmeal and clay masks are great for deep cleaning. Don’t keep your skin in a clogged state where the oil sits in the pores, as the result will be blackheads. Keep your hair away from your face. Greasy hair and skin go together, and hair can spread infection. Avoid washing the face with soaps more than twice a day. Instead wash your face often with plain water splashes. And finally use a mask with a clay base often.

Homemade remedies for Blackheads

  1. Heat honey slightly and apply to face, tap face gently with your fingers. Wash honey off with warm water then rinse with cool water. A bit of wheat germ may be added to the honey before applying.
  2. To loosen and cleanse blackheads, make a paste of oatmeal, honey and an eggwhite. Apply to the skin, massage for 10 minutes then rinse with tepid water.
  3. Make a paste of oatmeal and water.
  4. Make a paste of almond meal and water.
  5. Blotchy skin: Make a mixture of 1 part apple cider vinegar and 8 parts water. Store in a decorative bottle in the bathroom. Rinse face 1-2 times a day with the solution.
  6. Rub with a slice of tomato over the blackheads
